about our mission.
In Sanskrit, shala (शाला) means school or home. It is our mission to create a place of learning and healing through yoga. East Rock Shala is more than a studio—it is a community. Whether you have never practiced yoga before or have been practicing for years, you are welcome here.
At the Shala, our foundational practice is ashtanga yoga. We are committed to teaching ashtanga in the traditional way as well as vinyasa and restorative yoga rooted in a variety of traditions of hatha yoga.
We believe that yoga is for everyone. Each of our experienced teachers is committed to teaching yoga in its traditional context with integrity while adapting this practice so it is accessible, fun and challenging for every person at every stage of life.
We are committed to serving our community through yoga. Our meditation classes are open to all and donation-based.
Come and join us for practice.
